New Delhi: With over 90% of Indian organisations expected to implement AI agents within the next 12 months, there’s a growing trend to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) among Indian organisations, according to a new IDC InfoBrief commissioned by UiPath.

The report, Agentic Automation: Unlocking Seamless Orchestration for the Modern Enterprise, reveals that about 40% of organisations in India have already deployed agentic AI, and nearly 50% plan to do so in the coming year. This marks a shift from experimental AI use to enterprise-wide implementation.

India’s AI investment is on a steep rise, projected to grow at an annualised rate of 38% from 2023 to reach $10.4 billion by 2028. In 2025, investments are focused on building the foundational infrastructure needed for high-value applications.

A digitally skilled workforce, expanding infrastructure, and government-backed initiatives are driving this momentum. Spending on enterprise automation and multilingual AI models is also contributing to the trend.

Key industries including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and life sciences, which depend heavily on data and repeated decision-making are adopting agentic AI. Among Indian organisations, 69% are using agentic AI to boost productivity, 59% for personalised customer engagement, and 57% for risk and fraud detection.

Despite the rapid uptake, challenges remain. A lack of skilled IT staff is the leading barrier, cited by 53% of organisations, followed by concerns around data security and regulatory compliance. On the business side, organisations are wary of data privacy breaches and a lack of transparency in AI-driven decisions.

Nevertheless, many organisations are willing to invest significantly in the right technologies, with some ready to pay up to a 50% premium for suitable AI agent platforms, expecting a threefold return on investment.

“Agentic automation is rapidly redefining business operations across India… Our agentic automation platform directly addresses these challenges, breaking down barriers to enterprise AI adoption by enhancing security and compliance,” said DebDeep Sengupta, Area VP, South Asia – UiPath.

“Becoming an AI-fueled business is no longer an option… It is clear that many leaders see its potential to drive unprecedented levels of productivity, innovation, and growth,” said Deepika Giri, Associate VP – IDC Asia and Pacific.

As adoption grows, business and technology leaders are urged to prioritise transparent governance, data security, and human-agent collaboration to ensure responsible AI deployment.
