Does a renewed iPhone 13 hold any value to buyers in 2024? Based on my review and usage for over a month, I would surely say that buying a renewed Apple iPhone 13 does offer good value for money like buying any new Apple smartphone launched in recent years, be it the iPhone 14, 15, or 16 series.

Purchasing a refurbished or used iPhone from a genuine seller would not only offer value for money, but it would also ensure that the device delivered is a genuine one, with original components supported with a year-long warranty. Overall, this makes the buying experience of a renewed iPhone more valuable at an affordable price and satisfaction for the buyers.

Renewed iPhone 13

Recently, controlZ, a Gurugram-based startup that is an online seller of refurbished high-end smartphones, shipped a renewed Apple iPhone 13 to TechHerald for a review.

This renewed Apple iPhone 13 model was in a starlight (white colour) shade with a glass-back cover, 128 GB storage, and running on the latest iOS 17 software system. The device was packed and delivered in a unique environment-friendly recycled paper and cardboard-made box, highlighting controlZ’s focus and conscious efforts on sustainability.

Charging adapter and Warranty

The box contained the refurbished iPhone along with a 20W controlZ-branded (compatible) USB-C Type fast charge adapter and a charging cable. Also, a barcode-based warranty card was included in the box that covers an 18-month long warranty and support for this device. This does make it an interesting proposition for buyers to go for renewed iPhones compared to new ones, which are quite expensive.

Because in recent years, Apple has discontinued bundling chargers, cables, and headphones with iPhones, which means buyers will have to purchase the charger, headphones, and other accessories separately, and that makes purchasing iPhones a very expensive affair.

After unboxing this renewed Apple iPhone 13, I closely looked at the body of the device, and it appeared that there were no physical scratch marks on the entire body, including the front glass and backside, and I couldn’t find any cuts or dents on its metal-based edges. Although it was a refurbished iPhone 13, actually it looked like a fresh, brand-new iPhone 13.

Besides the outer appearance, I closely checked the internal configuration of this device, particularly the version of iOS, storage, and battery health. Interestingly, this 128 GB iPhone 13 model was launched in 2021 with the A15 Bionic chip and iOS 15.

Software updates and internal configuration

Despite being a three-year-old model, it was shipped with the iOS 17 version released in September 2023 but got updated to the latest 17.7 version released in September 2024. A month later, it updated to the latest iOS 18.1 version released in October this year. It showed that this renewed Apple iPhone 13 was being fully supported with Apple’s latest iOS software updates, and it worked perfectly fine.

Battery performance

The battery showed optimal performance with a healthy 100% charge, supported by a compatible controlZ branded C-Type fast charging adapter and cable. During my usage, I found that this renewed iPhone 13 took a little over an hour to fully charge via its compatible fast charger. However, this adapter didn’t show any charging capacity details, but most likely it was either a 20W or 30W charging adapter.

Battery performance

In my case, this iPhone 13‘s battery lasted for longer than one and a half days. Perhaps the battery performance would mostly vary for every user, depending on the usage and applications that include voice and video calls, internet access (mobile internet or Wi-Fi based), playing games, listening to music and watching videos, social media applications, and more.

Having said that, this iPhone13’s battery was original, and its performance was far improved and better compared to older iPhone models in the past. And the battery performance was on par with any new one.

With the latest iOS updates, optimum battery performance, and good condition of the iPhone’s exterior or body, there’s nothing much to complain about. And obviously, its camera and lens were in good working condition, which makes this renewed Apple iPhone 13, overall a very good purchase or investment for buyers.

Overall, I am very confident to say that the refurbished or renewed Apple smartphone supplied by controlZ was a real genuine device. For those, who are interested in buying refurbished Apple iPhone models, I would recommend them to surely visit the controlZ website and check out the latest deals available online.

Rating

In terms of the overall review of this renewed Apple iPhone 13, I would give a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. Mainly because of the device’s originality, bundled with a charging adaptor plus an 18-month long warranty – all offered at a very attractive starting price of Rs. 38,499. That makes it a great deal for sure.
