Posted by New Delhi: Red Hat is doubling down on developer experience with the launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for Business Developers, a production-ready RHEL access self-service offering aimed at enabling developer teams to build and test enterprise applications on the same hardened platform that runs their production workloads—at no cost.
Designed to bridge the traditional divide between development and operations teams, this initiative gives developers access to up to 25 RHEL instances—across physical, virtual, or cloud environments—through the Red Hat Developer Programme. The move is set to streamline hybrid cloud development by reducing environment drift, a notorious source of bugs, deployment failures, and performance inconsistencies.
“Modern developers need to be able to move at their own pace to deliver innovative applications, but must do so without increasing friction with IT operations teams or production systems,” said Gunnar Hellekson, VP and GM – Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat.

Tech Stack and Tooling
In addition to full RHEL access, developers will get curated, signed content tailored to modern application development. This includes popular open source languages, frameworks, databases, and native integrations with Podman Desktop—Red Hat’s lightweight, daemonless container tool, optimised for enterprise Linux environments.
With Podman, developers can spin up containers, build bootable images, and develop within a fully open source container ecosystem without relying on Docker or proprietary runtimes.
Developer-Centric, Security-First
Red Hat’s push comes as the complexity of enterprise IT grows. Hybrid and edge deployments are now the norm, compounded by increasing threats in the software supply chain. Red Hat’s 2025 Product Security Risk Report notes a continued rise in supply chain vulnerabilities—a trend the company hopes to mitigate by encouraging development on a consistent, verified platform.
For enterprise teams already running RHEL in production, this program means reduced friction, fewer last-mile bugs, and a smoother CI/CD pipeline. It also opens doors for line-of-business developers—those outside traditional IT—to prototype and test apps on production-grade infrastructure.
Support and Expansion Path
While the core production-ready RHEL offering is free, developers can opt into paid Red Hat Developer Support plans, tapping into the company’s decades of Linux expertise for troubleshooting, performance tuning, and architecture guidance.
This new release complements Red Hat’s existing lineup: Red Hat Developer Subscription for Individuals (for personal projects), and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer Subscription for Teams (offered through enterprise sales channels).
