India leads in AI readiness, workplace happiness

India is emerging as a global leader not just in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) but also in using it to improve employee wellbeing, reveals a new global study by Jabra and the Happiness Research Institute.

The report titled, “Work and Wellbeing in the Age of AI,” highlights how Indian organisations are combining AI deployment with workplace satisfaction, redefining the future of work.

The findings are based a survey of 3,700 knowledge workers in 11 countries including United States (428), United Kingdom (360), Denmark (320), Australia (315), India (318), Netherlands (320), Italy (363), Poland (329), Japan (335), France (318) and Germany (357).

The report defines knowledge workers as desk-based professionals and focuses on how AI impacts their happiness, job optimism, and overall work experience. Most respondents come from higher-income, flexible roles.

“AI is often discussed in terms of productivity, but in India, we are seeing it become a powerful driver of emotional engagement. The future of work is not just about faster outcomes, it is about more meaningful ones,” said Peter Jayaseelan, VP – South Asia and APAC Channels, Jabra.

High Adoption, Higher Satisfaction
India ranks highest globally for daily AI use, with 36% of professionals integrating AI into both work and personal routines. Among these frequent users, 92% report enhanced enjoyment at work—pointing to a strong link between AI usage and job satisfaction.

The trend is especially notable among working parents, who comprise 78% of India’s frequent AI users. They cite AI as a tool that streamlines routine tasks, creating space for strategic, meaningful work.

AI Readiness Is Paying Off
Organisational readiness appears to be a key driver. 69% of Indian professionals say their employers have already taken steps toward AI integration—through training, tools, or strategy. At companies rated highest for AI preparedness, employees report strong outcomes: job satisfaction averages 8.5/10, with similarly high scores for happiness and purpose.

AI is also fostering a culture of continuous learning. 85% of frequent users in India say they regularly gain new knowledge at work, compared to 77% of infrequent users.

Demand for Ethical, Inclusive AI
While optimistic, Indian workers are also calling for responsible AI adoption. Their top priorities include technical training (63%), AI literacy (58%), and ethical guidelines (54%). Nearly half also want greater transparency around AI’s impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Takeaway for Enterprises
As Indian enterprises lead in human-first AI integration, the message is clear: responsible, inclusive, and employee-focused AI strategies not only improve efficiency—they significantly enhance workplace culture and long-term retention.
