Pune: American technology company Corning Incorporated said its optical connectivity manufacturing facility located in Indian city of Pune, has become operational. Co-located with Corning’s existing optical fibre plant, established in 2012, the new facility expands the company’s manufacturing presence in India.
The facility manufactures optical connectivity products for data centre and telecommunications network applications. Its opening builds on Corning’s longstanding presence in India and supports the company’s ability to serve customers in the region with optical connectivity solutions.
The start of operations at the India facility marks an important milestone for Corning’s global manufacturing network. By expanding its optical connectivity manufacturing presence in India, the company has strengthened its ability to serve customers’ evolving connectivity requirements.
“With this facility now operational and additional capacity expected to come online in 2027, Corning is building on its established presence in India and enhancing its ability to serve customers,” said Sudhir Pillai, MD – India, Middle East, and Africa, Corning.
“This announcement reflects our long-term commitment to India and to supporting the continued development of its digital infrastructure,” added Pillai.
This announcement is another example of how Corning is addressing the powerful secular trends expected to support its growth, as outlined in the company’s Springboard Plan.
Corning recently shared its plan to grow sales to an annualised run rate of $20 billion by the end of 2026, $30 billion by the end of 2028, and $40 billion by the end of 2030, while growing earnings faster than sales and delivering significantly higher returns on invested capital and substantially more free cash flow.
The NYSE listed company has been present in India for more than six decades and has committed to playing a vital role in fuelling the country’s innovation journey.
