Posted by Mumbai: Acer India has announced the opening of a new laptop manufacturing facility in Puducherry in collaboration with Plumage Solutions, The move further strengthens Acer’s commitment to the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. The facility established under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for IT hardware, will bolster local production while reducing reliance on imports.
With this expansion, Acer aims to scale up its existing manufacturing capabilities in India. The new unit will support the production of laptops and complements Acer’s existing partnership with Plumage, which already covers the assembly of computer monitors, All in One desktops, servers, workstations and power adapters.
The Puducherry plant features an annual capacity of 300,000 laptop units. The facility also projected to create high-skill employment opportunities and boost the local economy, reinforcing India’s aim to become a global hub for electronics manufacturing.
Senior officials from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), Government of Puducherry, Acer India, and Plumage Group were present during the inauguration of the new laptop manufacturing facility.
According to Acer India President and MD Harish Kohli, India is not just a key market for Acer, it’s a strategic pillar for our future growth. “With this new manufacturing facility in Puducherry, we are proud to take another step toward supporting the Government of India’s vision of self-reliance in electronics,” said Kholi.
“The collaboration with Plumage allows us to bring global processes, cutting-edge technology, and high-quality standards to domestic manufacturing, creating a robust and agile supply chain that serves the Indian market more efficiently,” added Kholi.
“With a production capacity of 300,000 laptops, this facility not only enhances our manufacturing capabilities but also reinforces our commitment to local value addition and self-reliance,” added Sudhir Goel, CBO of Acer India.
