According to Goran Risticevic, Clourflare‘s VP and MD for Asia Pacific, the conversation has moved beyond incremental upgrades. “2026 is shaping up to be the year when autonomous security, regional data control, and AI-led decision-making start influencing day-to-day enterprise operations in a very real way,” says Risticevic.
He predicts that this year will see the rise of autonomous security, regional data control, and AI-led decision-making begin influencing enterprise operations in a practical way.
The first key prediction is the rise of AI-powered defence. By 2026, cybersecurity professionals in the region will see their roles fundamentally change. AI will move from a copilot role to acting as an autonomous first-responder. This will allow security teams to focus on strategic tasks rather than reactive firefighting.
AI agents will vet most enterprise traffic and handle triage and enrichment. Teams will spend more time on predictive modelling and high-level innovation. This shift is expected to strengthen resilience across organisations facing increasingly complex threats, marking a clear evolution in AI-powered cybersecurity in Asia Pacific practices.
India is expected to lead this global cybersecurity pivot. Around 87 percent of organisations in India are projected to increase their cyber budgets over the next year. The workforce will evolve, creating specialised roles such as AI Security Specialist and Cloud Security Engineer. This will help India develop one of the world’s most advanced strategic defence workforces.
Another key prediction is the rise of the Sovereign AI mandate. The traditional global cloud model is expected to fragment. Localised data regulations in countries such as Australia and Japan will prompt organisations to rethink their AI strategies.
Companies will increasingly run domain-tuned AI models on local edge nodes. This will keep intelligence in-country, maintain compliance, and allow rapid decision-making. Data sovereignty will no longer be seen as a constraint but as an enabler of regional innovation, further driving AI-powered cybersecurity in Asia Pacific across enterprises.
