Chennai: Plenome Technologies, an IIT Madras-incubated startup developing Blockchain and AI-based solutions for secure digital data management, has secured Rs 6.5 crore in seed funding from a consortium of Indian and international investors. The funding will support the firm’s global expansion and further development of its proprietary technologies in sensitive domains such as healthcare and voting.

Plenome, founded by IIT Madras faculty and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal, is creating cutting-edge platforms for secure and scalable data exchange. Its innovations include BlockTrack OraganEase solution, currently in trial use for organ donation database management in partnership with a state-level transplant authority, and BlockVote, a blockchain-based remote voting solution successfully deployed during student elections at IIT Madras.

In addition, the company is piloting Ashwin—an AI-driven suite for electronic health record capture and insight generation, with initial focus on dental care and plans to expand into ophthalmology, fertility, and cosmetic health. The voice-enabled platform supports inputs in multiple Indic and foreign languages.

Plenome’s digital applications aim to address the complex challenge of ensuring privacy, security, and interoperability of sensitive data across organisations and jurisdictions. Its platform, built on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), enables trusted data management in critical areas such as healthcare and e-governance.

“Our work improves access to healthcare in remote locations while enabling interoperability and insight generation based on structured medical records. Our work on remote elections is very exciting, offering the possibility of voting through mobile devices from any location,” said said Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal, Founder Chairman, Plenome Technologies, and Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras.

We are grateful to Ovington, Ram and Manish for backing this vision. We hope to grow organically with impact in the coming years,” added Prof. Rajagopal.

Co-Founders Vijayaraja Rathinasamy, a specialist in embedded systems, and Anirudh Varna, a blockchain expert, are both from IIT Madras. Rathinasamy emphasised the company’s mission to create inclusive and equitable technology, while Varna highlighted the startup’s vision of decentralising critical systems and scaling globally.

The investment round was led by Luxembourg-based Ovington Capital Partners, supported by UAE-based trading firm AADI and veteran investor Manish Gandhi. Dr Tamaswati Ghosh, CEO of IIT Madras Incubation Cell, praised Plenome’s novel tech-backed solutions and their traction in both national and international markets.

IIT Madras-incubated startup Plenome’s patent-protected architecture enables secure storage and retrieval of datasets across geographies, offering a rare and practical use of DLT in large-scale data systems. The company is also developing what may be the world’s first distributed AI protocol, aimed at ground-truthed insight generation for critical sectors.

Marco Palacino of Ovington Capital noted that the firm’s strategy is to help Indian startups like Plenome scale internationally. Gandhi commended Plenome’s focus on privacy and data security, while AADI’s K. Ramasubramanian recognised the startup as a visionary deep-tech venture addressing real-world needs in health and digital governance.
