Mumbai: With a big push to build new digital and physical infrastructure, led by the Indian government’s initiatives, along with tech startups and enterprises, India remains a key market for WSO2.
India is a significant market for the Mountain View, US based open-source technology company WSO2, which provides identity access management (IAM) and application programming interface (API) management solutions.
For WSO2, India remains a key market
The company has several top enterprises and businesses in India as its customers. However, it sees big opportunities in the ongoing rapid transformation and development in the country.
“India remains a key market for WSO2. And we are committed to strengthening our presence by expanding our customer support team to better serve our growing customer base,” says WSO2 SVP and Chief Architect Dr. Srinath Perera.
“We continue to work with our existing partner network to drive adoption of our technologies and support enterprises in their digital transformation journeys and look forward to working with new partners,” adds Dr. Perera.
Unique business challenges
This year, the company’s focus remains on delivering innovative solutions and enhancing its service capabilities to meet the evolving needs of businesses in the region, according to Dr. Perera.
For instance, Aditya Birla Finance faced a legacy systems integration challenge while maintaining security and regulatory compliance. In another example, Federal Bank India faced multiple challenges, including B2B API management, regulatory compliance, high availability, and enhancing customer experience.
Responding to Aditya Birla Finance’s challenge, WSO2 provided a custom API management solution with advanced security features and a microservices architecture. It allowed the integration with legacy subsystems and enabled seamless scalability. This solution helped the organisation to manage its increasing workloads and improve operations.
Likewise, Indian Railways (under Project Parvah) struggled with inconsistencies and API data sharing and scaling requirements that impacted a system’s scalability to serve growing demands. Indian Railways resolved its unique challenge with WSO2 API Manager.
By leveraging WSO2 API Manager, the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) successfully created, secured, and managed APIs using advanced tools for publishing, authentication, traffic control, and analytics. This ensured both scalability and security.
As a result, Project Parvah now efficiently handles 1.25 million API calls daily across 140+ APIs and 600+ resources. The platform serves 19 tenant groups and 45+ consumers, facilitating seamless B2B and B2C integrations.
These are among several customers that WSO2 serves across industries with customised solutions, addressing their unique business and operational challenges.
Customisable solutions
“Our main objective is to provide customisable solutions tailored to address the unique challenges of each organisation. Our expertise in API management, integration, and IAM has earned us a position as a trusted partner for organisations undergoing large-scale enterprise modernisation,” states Dr. Perera.
For example, the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) utilises WSO2 API Manager and WSO2 Identity Server to develop a SaaS platform that supports banks across India in streamlining the lending process.
In addition, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), UNICEF India, the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner (ORGI), and Federal Bank India are among the key organisations that are leveraging WSO2’s API management and IAM solutions for their digital initiatives.
Opportunities in India
With several notable customers in India, both in private and public spaces. WSO2 sees big opportunities across sectors in the Indian market. In the government and public sector, the company sees an opportunity in supporting Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiatives in identity, payments, and citizen services.
In the BFSI and telecom sectors, it sees opportunities in enabling secure, API-driven ecosystems for open banking, digital payments, and regulatory compliance and powering next-gen digital experiences through advanced API management and integration, respectively.
WSO2 aims to play a role in healthcare sector in enhancing interoperability for digital health records and telemedicine. While in retail and e-commerce, it sees a scope in helping businesses scale omnichannel and personalised digital experiences.
“As India accelerates its digital-first economy, WSO2 could support this transformation to be smooth and effective,” concludes Dr. Perera.
