Hyderabad – Bangalore: EON Space Labs, an Indian deep tech startup specialising in imaging technologies, has secured $1.2 million (approximately ₹10.5 crore) in a Pre-Series A funding round as it plans for Made-in-India optical payloads.
This investment, led by MGF Kavachh with HHV Advanced Technologies joining as an investor and strategic partner, aims to scale the development of EON’s Made‑in‑India optical payloads for satellites, drones, and ground platforms.
The funding will support the launch of MIRA, India’s lightest high-resolution space telescope, and four new variants of the LUMIRA electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) systems. These Made‑in‑India optical payloads are designed for long-range detection of humans, vehicles, and UAVs, enhancing surveillance capabilities across various platforms.
Founded in 2022 by Sanjay Kumar, Punit Badeka, and Manoj Kumar Gaddam, EON Space Labs focuses on miniaturised, high-resolution imaging systems. The company’s Made‑in‑India optical payloads leverage innovative optical designs to reduce size and weight by three to four times without compromising on image quality.
MIRA is set to be the lightest high-resolution space telescope designed and manufactured in India, with plans for launch by the end of 2025. Concurrently, the LUMIRA EO/IR variants are tailored for drone and ground-based surveillance platforms, addressing up to 85% of the use cases in the global EO/IR surveillance market, valued at $11.09 billion as of 2025.
EON Space Labs has already secured multiple commercial orders, following successful proof-of-concept demonstrations, indicating there’s a strong market interest in the Made‑in‑India optical payloads.
MountTech Kavachh’s Venture Partner Col. (Retd.) Sarjeet Yadav, expressed enthusiasm about supporting EON’s vision, stating, “We are excited to support the bold and visionary team at EON. They are not only indigenously building but also strengthening India’s position in the global optics and surveillance technology space.”
Prasanth Sakhamuri, Managing Director at HHV Advanced Technologies, added, “Our partnership with EON reflects a shared commitment to advance India’s high-precision optics manufacturing capabilities. The investment marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration to bring deep tech imaging solutions to market.”
EON’s vertically integrated approach, from optical design and system engineering to prototyping and manufacturing, is entirely based in India, reinforcing the indigenous space and defense tech supply chain.
Sanjay Kumar, Co-founder of EON Space Labs, remarked, “Together, we will accelerate India’s capabilities in miniaturised optics, high-resolution imaging, and dual-use payload systems for space and terrestrial use.”
Punit Badeka, Co-founder of EON Space Labs, added, “We are building high-quality EO tools that are easy to access and use, so more people can benefit from accurate and timely information.”
With the support of its strategic investors, EON Space Labs is poised to create a globally competitive optical payload ecosystem, positioning India as a leader in the space and surveillance technology sectors.
