Mumbai: TicWatch E2 – a smartwatch from Chinese consumer tech company Mobvoi launched in India recently. In this review, TechHerald.in takes a close took at TicWatch E2 and all its features.

Recently, TechHerald.in reviewed the TicWatch E2 – smartwatch.

Going by E2’s technical specifications and features, it certainly gives a fresh new Android wear experience and feel. E2 is a fully loaded smartwatch, compared to its predecessor E and other smartwatches available in the market.

E2’s appears big and bulky compared to previous E version due to its new design and built, but its weight remains pretty much light.

But, E2 does lack few features that probably, many users would have expected from E2. Nevertheless, lets have a close look at the tech specifications that makes TicWatch E2 – a smartwatch with a wide range of functions and capability.

TicWatch E2 and other models from Mobvoi brand, probably are among the very few smart wearable devices, in the world today that actually are running on Google’s Wear OS (operating system). And that makes it integrate and function easily with other Android devices along with Apple’s iOS.

E2 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform, which mainly is a platform designed for smartwatches and uses Snapdragon Wear 2100 dual-core 1300 MHz processor.

In terms of in-built memory and space. E2 has a modest 512 MB RAM and 4 GB storage, which many users may find it bit on the low side compared to other smartwatches.

E2’s 415 mAh battery capacity is not very large but is quite sufficient to last up to two days. However, users don’t be surprised, if your E2 smartwatch ends up running for almost three days – all in a single normal charging via a magnetized charger unit.

Given E2’s circular shape, its rounded bezel comes with an 1.39 inch AMOLED multi-touch display, offering a 400×400 pixel illuminated view. The display has an ambient mode, which is a new feature that adjusts brightness automatically. TicWatch E2 comes with customizable watchface.

The 53 gram-light weight, matte-finished polycarbonate black-colour smartwatch, comes with a 22 mm replaceable soft silicon arm bands with the old styled buckle lock. Overall, it offers 6ATM water resistance up to 50 meters underwater as claimed by Mobvoi.

That’s what TicWatch E2 has to offer on the technology front, however, in terms of apps, connectivity and controls, E2 has many things to offer its users.

It comes with a pack of Google apps including Google Fit, Google Maps, Google Assistant via microphone/mic based voice commands, along with Google Play Store. Allowing the user to download several other apps. It supports different languages including, some of the Indians languages as well.

Besides, it offers access to other apps like Spotify, FourSquare, Uber, Strava, Facebook’s Messenger and WhatsApp through notifications and alerts.
TicWatchE2 smartwatch requires a Gmail account configuration and pairing with a mobile phone via Bluetooth. User gets notifications of any incoming calls, SMS messages or apps through text displayed on-screen or through vibration.

Interestingly, TicWatch E2 as a smartwatch has a lot to offer for sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts. Its activity tracker helps the user to monitor data on heart rates, running and walking distance, food calorie consumption.

E2 uses Mobvoi’s proprietary AI algorithms suite – TicMotion. The AI suite tracks and detects various activities like running, walking, swimming and sleeping via in-built GPS. Also uses Accelerometer, gyroscope, heart-rate sensor, low latency off-body sensors. These provides the user with an accurate data on various activities.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the E2 offers Bluetooth (version 4.1), GPS (GPS, GLONASS, Beidou) and WiFi (802.11 b/g/n). However, it doesn’t come with NFC, USB, sound /speakers and also there’s support no for SD, SIM or external memory card.

During this review of TicWatch E2, TechHerald.in found that the smartwatch has an in-built mic /microphone to support voice command for Google Assistance but there’s no sound or speaker support.

And that certainly takes some life out of this smartwatch, making some users feel a bit dull and disappointed. Plus with no in-built payment service, Google Pay and other payment apps are unlikely to work on E2.

Overall, TicWatch E2 is certainly entry to the mid-level smartwatch. At a price of Rs 13,999 and set of features, E2 is highly recommended for first time smartwatch buyers. E2 would appeal more to sportsperson and fitness enthusiasts; however, both male and female users can wear it.

From a price point, E2 is a bit on the higher side for the price-conscious Indian market. If the company can rethink on the pricing under the 10K mark, then probably more people are likely to buy it in India.

Currently, TicWatch E2 and other models are available online on Amazon and Flipkart; although the company is in talks with partners to sell its products offline in near future.

In this review, TechHerald.in found the smartwatch TicWatch E2 as a great value product for the money with a 3.5 rating out of 5.
