Bengaluru: Wayfair, a US-based global e-commerce company for home furniture and goods, announced its entry into the Indian market. The e-commerce company has opened its India Technology Development Centre (TDC) in Bengaluru.

It has plans to recruit some 300 highly skilled technology employees in Bengaluru over the next year, as the company aims to tap into the extensive talent pool the city offers.

As part of its ongoing global talent expansion, Wayfair has strategically established new TDCs in North America over the last year. And the company has ventured into India, targeting the recruitment of tech professionals, who can support Wayfair’s growing business.

The available positions encompass a wide range of roles, including supply chain technology, website and native apps, offering exciting opportunities for individuals passionate about cutting-edge retail technology.

Probably, Wayfair’s India plans appear to have links with its reduction in the number of employees in the US last August, following sluggish business resulting in losses, as per reports. The company in an SEC filing had mentioned that it will have a “workforce reduction” involving some 870 employees. The company may have moved those jobs from the US to India.

To lead the new Bengaluru TDC, Wayfair appointed Rohit Kaila as the Head of Technology and Site Leader for Wayfair in India.

Responsible for Wayfair’s India expansion, Kaila brings more than three decades of experience across brands. He worked at Walmart Tech Global for five years with notable achievements and impactful contributions, including serving as the leader of Walmart’s US Technology organisation and the international e-commerce organisation.

Bengaluru has earned a well-deserved reputation as India’s Silicon Valley, and our establishment of the TDC here will enable us to assemble a team of highly talented and experienced engineers, “ said Rohit Kaila, Head of Technology and Site Leader for Wayfair in India.

“With its abundant digital talent pool and prestigious educational institutions, Bengaluru stands out as our preferred choice. We eagerly anticipate our crucial role in driving world-class innovations by recruiting individuals who possess deep expertise in emerging technologies such as AI, ML, data, cloud, and more,” added Kaila.

“World-class talent is key to our growth, and we are excited to be in Bengaluru with its rich network of technical talent. Employees who join our Bengaluru office can expect to work in an entrepreneurial environment with freedom to innovate, with the benefits of being at an established company of over 20 years,” said Fiona Tan, CTO of Wayfair.
