New Delhi: Bharti backed OneWeb, a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications company has successfully launched a batch of 36 satellites today.

Arianespace, OneWeb’s launch partner successfully launched this new batch of 36 satellites into orbit from the launch facility Soyuz Launch Complex at Vostochny Cosmodrome – a spaceport located in the far east of Russia.

With this launch, OneWeb has a total of 182 satellites in-orbit constellation. These will form part of OneWeb’s 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed and low-latency global connectivity.

It represents 60% of the constellation required to enable the company’s connectivity solution to reach all regions north of 50 degrees latitude by June 2021.

Under the ‘Five to 50’ program, this was the third launch in a total of five launches. This will enable the company to offer services across the United Kingdom, Alaska, Northern Europe, Greenland, Iceland, the Arctic Seas and Canada. Before the end of 2021, the services will be launched. The company expects to make its global service available in 2022.

“These are exciting times at OneWeb as we get ever closer to bringing our connectivity services to some of the world’s hardest to reach places,” said Neil Masterson, CEO – OneWeb.

With this successful launch, OneWeb is rapidly building momentum. “We are launching more satellites, demonstrating the network and announcing more distribution signings around the globe,” commented Masterson.

“We have a world-class team and product, and alongside our supportive shareholders, OneWeb continues to work towards bringing connectivity to everyone, everywhere,” added Masterson.

The London headquartered company continues to grow rapidly as it sees an increasing demand across its customer base.

It has recently announced distribution signings across multiple industries and expanded its global capabilities. The company has agreed on an MoU with the Government of Kazakhstan this month.
