New Delhi: Robotics and supply chain automation company GreyOrange, announced two new installations of its linear sorter for DTDC, a leading express parcel service provider in India.

With this, GreyOrange aims to support DTDC’s expansion across India with advanced automation in its key distribution hubs. This will help manage its increasingly higher volumes with faster turnaround speeds.

DTDC has partnered with GreyOrange in the last four years. As the volume of parcels grew 25-40% annually, DTDC has identified GreyOrange as a ‘technology partner’ and worked together to develop automation solutions to support its various regions.

Today, a network of eight sites operate with GreyOrange high-speed Linear Sorters in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad. These distribution hubs operate 24×7 with a capacity of over 20,000 parcels an hour; as many as half a million parcels a day, and up to 3 million parcels a week. With the use of such advanced automation, DTDC has been efficiently serving large ecommerce players.

“It is necessary for us to adopt automation and new technologies to manage our ever-increasing volumes. New regulations such as GST require streamlining of operations, and deployment of new systems have helped us achieve faster turnaround times and lower operating costs,” said Abhishek Chakravorty, CEO & Executive Director, DTDC.

“Our collaboration with DTDC has been extremely successful. We are happy our linear sorters have helped each hub achieve greater levels of performance and efficiencies. As the technology partner for their automation requirements, we are proud to contribute to their exciting growth,” said Vivekanand, Country Manager – India & SAARC, GreyOrange.

The GreyOrange linear sorter, comprising advanced software and a high-speed sorter, is designed to manage a wide variety of applications. Customers in e-commerce, consumer goods, apparel and retail industries have commissioned these sorters in Latin America and across Asia; including Indonesia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

Equipped with advanced software from GreyOrange, the sorter uses the same hardware to adapt to the customised configurations necessary to handle the daily requirements of its various users.

“We have witnessed outstanding results and a dramatic rise in the overall productivity and efficiency levels. With the GreyOrange sorters operating at full capacity, the reduction in time to process a parcel has come down from 6-7 hours to just over an hour. Our warehouse staff are all happier and motivated, and we have experienced better retention rates over the years,” added Chakravorty.
