Mumbai, India – San Jose, US: Cisco, the IT and networking giant on Thursday announced its intent to acquire Sentryo – a provider of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform.
Lyon, France based Sentryo provides device visibility and security solutions for industrial control system (ICS) networks. Although, the financial details of this deal were not disclosed, the company expected the deal to get closed by October end this year.
Cisco through Sentryo’s acquisition will address the key challenges businesses face while deploying IoT projects and that is, mainly managing devices, scalability and security for Operational Technology (OT) assets.
“Sentryo’s industrial IoT/OT technology solution helps companies like those in the energy, manufacturing, oil and gas and transportation sectors ensure the resilience of their industrial networks and protect against cyber security attacks,” Rob Salvagno, VP – Corporate Development and Cisco Investments wrote in a blog post.
“By combining Cisco’s intent-based network architecture with Sentryo’s capabilities, customers can capture IoT benefits, manage networks and devices at scale, enable collaboration across IT and OT departments, and better protect their assets and data,” added Salvagno.
According to Salvagno, Cisco has incorporated Sentryo’s Edge Sensor with company industrial networking hardware – IOx application framework. Earlier this year, Cisco launched the industry’s first integrated network architecture that extends intent-based networking capabilities to the IoT edge.
“We believe that connectivity is foundational to IoT projects and by unleashing the power of the network we can dramatically improve operational efficiencies and uncover new business opportunities. With the addition of Sentryo, Cisco can offer control systems engineers deeper visibility into assets to optimize, detect anomalies and secure their networks,” Salvagno informed in the blog post.
Sentryo’s IoT platform will bring automated visibility into OT. “Sentryo will add tremendous value for our customers including those operating industrial control systems in oil and gas, electric utilities, building automation, mining operations, chemical processing facilities, and more,” Liz Centoni, SVP and GM – Cisco’s Internet of Things (IoT) Business Group wrote in a blog post.
