Posted by Mumbai: Data centre company CtrlS has built India’s first quake-resistant and air-pollution free data centre in Noida.
This strongly built Noida data centre is quake-resistant and can withstand earthquakes measuring 8.5 on the Richter scale. Such advancement ensures the smooth and seamless availability of this facility to customers during a natural disaster.
Besides, the facility has set up an air-filtration plant to ensure the elimination of air pollutants which harm humans and IT infrastructure. This makes the Noida facility earth and eco-friendly green data centre.
The Noida facility, according to CtrlS is a truly sustainable data centre as it is not just energy-efficient but also has zero water, energy and food wastage. It is constructed with eco-friendly materials keeping in view all aspects of sustainability.
In fact, this Noida data centre is certified as a LEED Platinum v4.0 O+M facility. The design and construction of this data centre help to save energy, water, resources, generate less waste and be eco-friendly at the same time.
“Sustainability is embedded in the DNA of CtrlS, as the company is focused on best practices in energy management and other areas,” said Gopalakrishnan, Managing Director, GBCI – South East Asia and Middle East Markets.
GBCI (Green Business Certification Inc) is an independent organisation that provides third-party credentialing and verification for several rating systems relating to the built environment.
CtrlS has reduced water footprint through rainwater harvesting and water recycling. It has effective recycling and management of e-waste, which the company practices across all its data centres located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida, and Bengaluru.
The energy consumption of data centres according to industry estimates will account for 3.2% of the global carbon emissions by 2025. It will consume one-fifth of global electricity that is doubling every four years. By 2040, storing data digitally is set to create approximately 14% of the global emissions.
Given this scenario particularly with high power consumption and carbon emissions, CtrlS has been continuously working to take effective measures that are helping to improve the overall energy efficiency of data centre infrastructure.
“We have had 200 innovations since our inception and 80 of those innovations have been focused on energy efficiency,” said Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder and CEO – CtrlS.
With a strong focus on energy efficiency, CtrlS has managed to work on data centre infrastructure overhead that includes power-hungry cooling, power distribution, backup batteries, generators and other components.
This has helped the company to bring down the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio to 1.35, which is near to the ideal PUE ratio of 1. “We have successfully lowered the PUE ratio to 1.35 and it is the lowest in the industry,” informed Pinnapureddy.
In addition, to further minimize environmental impact with zero-emission, zero waste and zero-pollution operation, CtrlS is building its captive solar power plants with a 200 plus MW capacity that will power its data centre facilities in the near future. And this is likely to further reduce the carbon footprint of the company.
